Research and Planning
Project Description
Workers in the liquor, gaming, and cannabis industries need access to training to provide socially responsible service to Albertans. AGLC currently provides this training through multiple sites. As part of branding goals and user experience improvements, AGLC wants to provide training through its main site, AGLC.ca, in a way that makes it easy and convenient to find.
Key Finding
In July of 2023, Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis (AGLC) and Yellow Pencil met several times to discuss SMART Programs Landing Pages. Our discussion included: intended users, stakeholders, goals, and governance.

Users must be able to find the learning resources and the specific courses they need to take based on a catalogue. This training relates to AML, Smart programs, and GAIN.
-
For this project, the training is focused on people who do not work for AGLC.
-
Some users will be told what they need to take by peers or as part of their job.
-
Some users will come via a Google search and might not see a landing page first.

Vision workshop
The vision workshop was conducted with the objective of establishing the project's vision and user goals, defining stakeholders, and determining success criteria from the perspective of the AGLC team. The workshop aimed to gain a clear understanding of the project and users' needs.

Target User Group
Based on our session, we have identified three categories of targeted users for the AGLC-LMS:

-
Learner: Users who are taking the training. Industry (cannabis, liquor, gaming) workers/ employees
-
Certification checker: Users who are looking up certifications.
-
Charities users: Training is optional for these users.

After analyzing the insights gained from the Vision workshop and client discussions, we developed two workflows for specific tasks on the website. This effort aims to assess users' objectives and interactions, providing recommendations on enhancing the user journey by integrating new Information Architecture (IA) and design.
Furthermore, we identified the group personas associated with,

-
Certification Checker
-
Learner
Drawing on past conversations with stakeholders, we crafted a scenario that illustrates the existing workflow for users interacting with the website to find the needed information. Subsequently, we constructed a future story map to showcase multiple potential solutions to enhance the overall user experience.
